The ride through Raiwai and Raiwaqa has become a lot less bumpier after remedial works on key arteries, which include Milverton Road.

The often used access was graded and then sealed. However, the works completed last week are remedial and according to Fiji Roads Authority, the road is included in the major upgrade project which starts next year.

Meanwhile, residents in Raiwai are now looking forward to travel on roads without potholes as Fiji Road Authority contractors started work on roads this week.

McFarlane Road, Leys Road and Rakoroi Road are under maintenance. Umendra Pratap of Cheng Place said it was about time the roads were repaired.

“For a long time, we have had to deal with roads which have had potholes bigger than lovo pits. I have damaged my vehicle more than three times,” he said.

“It was not in one spot but all over this suburb.”

Inoke Muavesi of McFarlane Road said he was happy that work had started and hoped that good work would be of a good standard. I am not being skeptical, but I would like to see contractors do work that would keep the road intact for at least more than three years,” he said.

“It would be a waste of money if they just graded the place and without any real work, just put gravel on tar. We would be back to square one in three months.
