Kilikali settlement residents Milio Nakorovulu faces eviction alongside more than 60 families after receiving notice from RB Patel Group.

With just two weeks remaining before their scheduled eviction, residents of the Kilikali settlement in Nasinu are anxiously awaiting government assistance.

Many fear for their future as uncertainty looms over where they will relocate once the eviction takes place.

“We’re just looking for our location where to go. They just give us notice to evacuate,” said Milio Nakorovulu, who has lived in the area for 45 years.

He now fears the move will disrupt his grandchildren’s education.

“Maybe they’ll stay at home for quite some time... it will spoil their school time.”

The eviction notice, issued by Sherani & Co. on behalf of landowner RB Patel Group Limited, declared the residents’ occupation “unlawful and illegal” and ordered them to vacate within 14 days.

Over 60 homes are affected, with the land earmarked for future commercial development. The case is currently before the High Court.

Despite an on-site assessment by Ministry of Housing officials last week, following Minister Maciu Nalumisa’s earlier pledge of support, residents say no relocation plan has been communicated.

Mr Nakorovulu remains hopeful: “Someday they will be giving assistance to us to another place to go.”

The ministry’s findings are expected to be presented to Cabinet for further action.
