Residents Of Davuilevu, Waidamudamu Awoken To Big Clean-Up As Floodwaters Rush Through Homes
“Flood waters have gone inside our home spoiling our beddings and mats and sometimes we are cleaning out mud that is waist-deep,” Ms Suluvanua said.

Meredani Nakayaca of Naqiliso Settlement in Davuilevu has become all too familiar with the sound of heavy rain.
She knows that she would have her work cut out for her soon enough.
So, when it rained continuously on Monday night, sure enough she and her family couldn’t sleep a wink.

Floodwaters rushed through her home and the family had to once again move things around and salvage what they could.
Yesterday, Ms Nakayaca was seen mopping out mud and water from her kitchen.

“It takes time for the water levels to recede because of the drainage and meanwhile, we have to stay indoors for our own safety.
Ms Tupou said her grandchildren did not go to school because of this.
“This morning, we could not even see the roads and that makes it difficult for drivers and those who have to go to work or school,” she said.
“During rainy weather, some of these homes are badly affected because flood waters enter their home,” she said.
Ms Tupou thanked the Government for the new road development.
However, she is calling out to relevant ministries to fix the drainage problems that the community currently faces.
