Five houses in Nakobo Settlement, Labasa, are without water supply for one month.

Unhappy resident Zoheb Ali said she used to get water cart from Water Authority of Fiji every Thursday under the previous Government, but this year families faced disruptions.

“I had called WAF’s toll free number 1508 on November 6, 11, 19 and 23 and until today there is no water cart,” Mr Ali said.

“The person who answered my call gave me request number 2118784 and then later 2124546 promising that water cart will be provided, unfortunately no response.”

There are about 24 residents who include elderly persons, people living with diabetes and school children.

Most had no choice, but to walk long distances to a nearby river to fetch water.

“If WAF can’t provide service it should remove the toll free number and tell us nicely for once about their inability instead of wasting our time and money,” he said.

“Making false promise and depriving people their right to basic need is not a noble practice.”

He said while other parts of Labasa were receiving water carts, he wanted to know why his settlement was ignored.

An email was sent to WAF seeking clarification on Thursday.

WAF staff acknowledged email receipt and assured us that they would follow up on this issue.
