Plans are in place to revitalise and rebuild a giant clam sanctuary within the pristine waters of Momi Bay.

This will be through the Fiji Marriott Resort Momi Bay partnership with the Ministry of Fisheries.

Renowned for its commitment to environmental sustainability the resort has launched this initiative to foster the regeneration of marine life, particularly focusing on the giant clam population, for the benefit of future generations.

Conservation activities

The resort’s sustainability manager Mereoni Mataika, said they would engage guests and the local community in this vital environmental initiative through educational programmes.

She said the guided activities and interactive experiences would raise awareness about the importance of marine conservation and the resort’s continuous sustainable tourism practices.

Restoration

The project marks a significant step towards the restoration of a healthy and thriving ecosystem in the region.

The launch of the initiative saw the introduction of five giant clams, each averaging 35cm in size, into the designated sanctuary area.

These giant clams serve as the foundation for the rejuvenation of the clam population, intending to foster sustainable growth and provide a sanctuary for marine life to flourish. On Thursday, the resort hosted the grand opening of the Associates Recreation Room.

“The room reflects the company’s commitment to employee well-being and a positive workplace culture, fostering stronger connections, increased morale and a harmonious work environment,” a statement said.
