A fast-food restaurant off Cumming Street has been shut down by Suva City Council’s Health Team following its failure to address serious health and safety concerns.
The closure was effective Friday, after the restaurant repeatedly ignored an abatement notice issued last week requiring them to improve unsanitary conditions found during routine inspections.
SCC acting chief executive officer, Tevita Boseiwaqa, said the decision to close the establishment was necessary to protect public health.

“The unhygienic conditions observed at this particular food outlet presented an intolerable risk to public health,” Mr Boseiwaqa said.
“Despite being afforded ample opportunity and clear directives to rectify the critical issues, the restaurant management regrettably failed to take the required corrective measures.”
Breaches
According to the council, the restaurant breached multiple food safety standards outlined in the Food Safety Act 2003.
The establishment will remain closed until management completes all necessary remedial actions and passes a thorough re-inspection by Council Health Inspectors.
Mr Boseiwaqa stressed that the Council would conduct another inspection next week to determine if the restaurant could resume operations.
“The Council will not hesitate to take decisive and appropriate action, including immediate closure against any food business that fails to meet essential standards designed to protect the health and well-being of our community,” he added.
Council officials confirmed that health inspectors will continue conducting regular and rigorous inspections of food establishments throughout the city to ensure compliance with public health regulations.
