Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Biman Prasad, has clarified that Fijians can still withdraw their retirement savings from the Fiji National Provident Fund (FNPF) at the age of 55.
He was responding to a story published in The Fiji Times front page today which incorrectly reported otherwise.
Minister for Information Lynda Tabuya also labelled the news article as ‘fake news’.

“The entitlement age continues to be 55 years. This has not changed, contrary to the Fiji Times front page story,” said Mr Prasad.
He explained that the recent amendment was only about readmission into the FNPF. Members are now allowed to re-join the Fund twice after withdrawal, instead of just once as before.
“The withdrawal of full funds at retirement age of 55 remains in law,” he reaffirmed.
The Fiji Times has since expressed regret over the error on its front page story and has offered an apology for the inconvenience caused.
The government says it is committed to accurate and timely information, and continues to appeal to media outlets to uphold their duty to the people of Fiji by fact-checking and ensuring accuracy to avoid causing harm, confusion and mistrust.
