Review Of Name Change Law Announced

Cabinet has approved the review of the name change policy implemented by amendments to the Interpretation Act and the Electoral (Registration of Voters) Act 2012 (Acts) in 2021.

This amendment heaped a lot of criticism when it was tabled and passed in parliament in 2021.

Seven women had also filed a constitutional challenge against the Electoral Registration of Voters Amendment Act and the Interpretation Act of which the matter is before the courts.

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka said the Office of the Attorney General and Ministry of Justice would carry out public consultations on the change of the law in 2021.
