The Republic of Fiji Military Forces and the Fiji Police Force, in their joint operation, have declared war against those involved in the illicit drugs trade.
“There will be no haven for criminals involved in the illicit drug trade,” Brigadier- General Manoa Gadai said during the launch of the Joint Counter Narcotics Task Force Operation in the Western Division on Friday.
The warning signals the new offensive against drug syndicates, traffickers and dealers, as the nationwide crackdown against illicit drugs intensifies, with a call to drugists to look for other income sources.
Last Friday senior military and Police officers met at the Joint Task Force Command headquarters for a high-level operational meeting aimed at strengthening coordination, intelligence-sharing and tactical readiness as both forces unite against what leaders described as a growing threat to Fiji’s future.
Brigadier-General Gadai reaffirmed the RFMF’s full commitment to supporting police-led operations.
He said unity between the two security forces would be important in dismantling Fiji’s drug networks.
“The full weight of the law, supported by the combined strength and capabilities of the RFMF and FPF, will be brought against all individuals and networks engaged in these illegal activities,” Brig-Gen Gadai said.
He described the rise of illicit drugs as an “existential threat” destroying families, communities and the nation’s social fabric.
Western Division Police Commander Senior Superintendent Ioane Vaisewa echoed the warning, saying both organisations were now working toward one common purpose protecting Fiji and its people from the devastating impact of drugs and transnational criminal activities.
Authorities say the operation will combine military manpower, police intelligence, tactical resources and logistical support in what is expected to become a sustained and aggressive campaign targeting traffickers, suppliers, distributors and criminal syndicates.
“This operation marks the beginning of a sustained, coordinated and aggressive campaign to safeguard Fiji’s national security, protect future generations and restore safety and stability within our communities.”
