Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) Commander Major-General Ro Jone Kalouniwai has distanced the institution from the recent political circus in Government.

Last week, Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka called out his own cabinet ministers pushing for the formation of a new political party. The party split dominated the headlines.

Earlier on, Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) Commissioner Barbara Malimali’s appointment came under the spotlight.

At the time of her appointment, she was under investigation by FICAC.

Issues of good governance, accountability and questionable leadership have hit the headlines recently.

The RFMF Commander has maintained his distance.

“That’s politics, why do we have to be concerned,” Major-General Kalouniwai said.

“We’re living in a democratic country today, it’s part of democracy, there is always a position.”

This is not the first time Major-General Kalouniwai has maintained his neutral stance.
