RFMF Steps Up To Clean Jetset Town After Flooding

Members of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) Officers were part of the mammoth task of cleaning up debris left behind after the flooding in Nadi over the weekend.

The 45-member team is part of the Joint Task Force Command (JTFC) based at the RFMF Black-rock Peac keeping and Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief Camp in Votualevu, Nadi.

Brigadier- General Manoa Gadai said three teams were deployed to Nadi town, Navoci, and Namotomoto Villages respectively.

“The cleanup was designed to allow residents and businesses to return to normal business and pattern of life as soon and as painlessly as possible,” he said.

The personnel armed with shovels, digging forks, brushes, and appropriate personal protective equipment, set about their tasks with vigour and worked closely with members of the National Fire Authority to achieve their tasks.

He added the Republic of Fiji Military Forces – Joint Task Force Command (JTFC) placed its personnel on standby to assist with evacuation, manning of EOC’s and any further assis-tance that would be required to support the National Disaster Management Office plans.

Nadi Town Council head plumber Vimal Kumar said a total of 30 staff were out and about cleaning the affected areas.

“The staff members are clean-ing all the flood-affected ar-eas which include Nadi market, bus stands, and various drains which have been clogged by the debris,” he said.

Mr Kumar thanked the RFMF officers for assisting them in returning the bustling Nadi Town to a normal business day.

“We are resilient people, flooding is not new to the town, but what matters is playing our respective roles,” he said.

Health inspectors also visited and carried out their routine checks in the shops and service stations which were also, under-water before they opened their doors for business.
