The Republic of Fiji Military Forces has warned that any attempts to destabilise national security will be met with firm and lawful action, as it begins joint operations with the Fiji Police Force.

Commander RFMF Major General Ro Jone Kalouniwai said the operations were initiated following recent attempts to undermine security at RFMF installations.

This follows an attempted security breach at the RFMF ammunition armoury at Queen Elizabeth Barracks in Suva last week.

Major General Kalouniwai said the RFMF was working in support of civil authorities to preserve public order and national stability.

He said the joint response reflected a measured approach to recent security concerns, including threats to military infrastructure and isolated acts of violence against civilians and officers.

“These operations are being undertaken in strict accordance with the constitutional mandate of the RFMF under the 2013 Constitution, which charges the Force with the responsibility to ensure at all times the security, defence, and well-being of Fiji and all Fijians,” he said.

“The RFMF will not take these matters lightly. Therefore, we put on NOTICE that any attempt to destabilize national security or endanger the well-being of citizens will be met with firm, lawful, and proportionate action.”

He said enhanced security measures would remain in place as long as necessary to ensure a safe and stable environment.

“The operations are being conducted with professionalism, discipline, and full respect for the rule of law and the rights of all citizens.”

He also warned the public against assisting those involved in criminal activity.

“Members of the public are reminded that providing shelter, assistance, or support to individuals engaged in criminal activity is an offence and directly undermines national security.”

Major General Kalouniwai urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to authorities.

“The RFMF reassures all citizens that its actions are guided by its constitutional obligations and its enduring commitment to serve and protect the people of Fiji.”
