“A gift is a gift and Valentine’s Day is all about love and happiness. For couples who love to exchange gifts, then such gifts are popular and commonly brought which is why I am selling them,” Ms Rokosaluwai said.

Valentine’s Day sales was slow for small business owner and florist Miriama Rokosaluwai.

Ms Rokosaluwai was selling Valentine’s Day items including teddy bears apart from special flower arrangements for the special day since Monday.

Located near Nabukalou creek at Harbour Centre, Ms Rokosaluwai said this was probably due to hard times people are experiencing financially.

“I always operate every year during Valentine’s week and the sale is usually good and fast, but this year has been the opposite,” she said.

She said selling flowers during Valentine’s was a way to earn extra income apart from just selling handicraft and souvenirs.

Ms Rokosaluwai said she was also selling teddy bears as it was mostly brought by young couples as a gift.

“A gift is a gift and Valentine’s Day is all about love and happiness. For couples who love to exchange gifts, then such gifts are popular  and commonly brought which is why I am selling them.”

She said she had dealt with customers who asked for suggestions like what is the best gift for his or her partner and she loves to give them suggestions.

“I am not only a seller but I understand what and how special this occasion is for lovely couples in Fiji,” she said.
