Rural Dwellers Grateful For Face Mask Donation

Now that wearing face masks is a necessity, people in rural areas are more than grateful to receive them from Non-Government Organisations.

Former advisory councillor of Korotari in Labasa, Navin Kumar, said he went out to distribute 6000 surgical masks to nine villages and one settlement.

Mr Kumar said 50,000 masks were allocated for Northern Division were from by WE – Fiji, an NGO.

“For some children it was the first time to receive and wear a mask,” Mr Kumar said.

“Some farmers felt so happy to receive additional masks so they can make trips to Labasa market to sell their produce.”

Recipient, Shiu Chand of Korotari, Labasa, said surgical masks were handier and more comfortable to wear.

“I have only two hand-made masks and during the rainy days it is very hard to dry because I don’t have a washing machine,” Mrs Chand said.

“With more than enough surgical masks, I can use it for rainy days and whenever the need arises.”

WE – Fiji president Mohammed Khan, a former principal of Nadogo Central College in Labasa, said the Northern Division was always in his priority list.

“We thank Sheikh and Madinah Academy (Australia) for their kind donation and Umaiza Transport Limited for coming on board to assist us in our work,” he said.
