Saint Joseph’s Launches Sapphire Anniversary

Saint Joseph’s Secondary School came to life on Saturday as the school launched its Blue Sapphire anniversary celebration, marking 65 years of existence.

Alumnae from Fiji flocked out in numbers, with a special zoom link connecting those who couldn’t physically be present, both in Fiji and overseas.

It was a time for reunion, joy, and laughter after the ease on COVID-19 restrictions. 

Not only that. The alumnae paid tribute to the founders of the school – the Cluny Sisters – for their dedication and commitment to educating women of Fiji. 

Alumnae president Pule Sukanaivalu said it was through God’s favour and timing that the school achieved this huge milestone. 

“It is evident that we have benefited from the guidance of the Sisters of St Joseph of Cluny and lay members of staff faculty…we salute you,” she said.

Provincial Head of the St Joseph De Cluny Order, Sr Alisson McAllister, said: “Sapphires, are diamonds determined by their colour – blue. They are also believed to symbolise wisdom, virtue, holiness, good fortune, faithfulness and sincerity. What significant words for the alumnae of St Joseph’s.”

Similar sentiments were echoed by the alumnae patron, Gaetane Austin. 

“St Joseph girls are found in all parts of the world, and so many of us here today owe so much to the Cluny Sisters: they gave us the teaching and capacity to be loving wives, caring mothers or women who succeed in diverse profession and businesses,” Mrs Austin said. 

“With their [Cluny Sisters] teachings and the principles they instilled in us, they also contributed to Fiji generally by molding women who had a core of strength and a wonderful education.” 

The celebration is set for Thursday, December 2, 2021 to Sunday, December 5, 2021 in Nadi.
