Salaseini Graduates as a Plumber
There are many challenges that come with being a female plumber, but with the right training and support for the trade, any woman can succeed.

There are many challenges that come with being a female plumber, but with the right training and support for the trade, any woman can succeed.
These were the words of Salaseini Duguvesi, 21, after graduating with a National Certificate in Plumbing and Sheetmetal Level Three from the Pacific Polytech, Labasa Campus at the Kshatriya Hall on Friday.
The Nawiwi Settlement native in Macuata said even though she couldn’t complete in the 2023 Miss Duavata Northern Crime Prevention Carnival, she gained lot of confidence such as to stand for herself.

“Last year I pursued a Diploma in Early Childhood Education course at the University of the South Pacific, but couldn’t complete it because I wanted to do something in trade like my elder brother,” Ms Duguvesi said.
“In my batch, there were 26 students with four females, but this did not deter me from achieving my goal.”
The second eldest of five siblings thanked her lecturer and colleagues for being supportive and accepting the inclusion of females in the course.
“I want to encourage students like me who couldn’t complete or achieve things in life to never give up and find what they can do best to make a living,” she said.
“Doing odd jobs or jobs dominated by male in this world shouldn’t be a hindrance.”
She was among the 101 students who graduated from five different trade schools and technology.
