Sangam eyes bigger economic role

Mr Bala acknowledged the global Sangam diaspora, saying their continued connection to Fiji had strengthened the organisation and expanded its international reach.

Then India Sanmarga Ikya (TISI) Sangam is looking to expand its economic role as it seeks to remain relevant in a changing environment, says president Parveen Bala.
Mr Bala said a key focus of the centennial convention programme was a symposium today aimed at strengthening the organisation’s long-term role.
“To this end, this convention will host a symposium to explore how we can improve as an organisation, including making it more relevant in the 21st century,” he said.

He said while Sangam remained committed to being a people-focused organisation, it also recognised its growing contribution to Fiji’s economy.
“Sangam contributes to nation-building and to year-round economic growth in Fiji,” he said.
Mr Bala acknowledged the global Sangam diaspora, saying their continued connection to Fiji had strengthened the organisation and expanded its international reach.
“Their contribution continues to strengthen our organisation and extend its reach across the world,” he said.
He also acknowledged participants and organisers involved in the centennial events.
“I know that you are many, and this means that our work is made easier through dedication to Sangam,” he said.
Mr Bala said beyond economics, the convention also reinforced faith, unity, identity and shared purpose.
