Saru, Lautoka Incident Not The First, Says Resident

The video of the incident has since gone viral on social media with many questioning why the driver attempted to cross the flooded area.

Rajesh Kamal, 46 of Saru Back Road, Lautoka says the recent incident involving a four-wheel drive that was swept away while trying to cross the flooded back road crossing is not the first.

The incident was on Monday afternoon.

Mr Kamal’s home is located close to the Saru back road crossing where the vehicle was washed away.

“It happened around half past 3 in the afternoon, luck­ily the driver and the passenger came out in time. This happens a lot when the vehicles try to cross, “he said.

He said despite the vehicle being stuck, the driver con­tinued to try and cross.

“They wanted to tie it and to pull it up but by that time, it was swept away.”

The video of the incident has since gone viral on social media with many questioning why the driver attempted to cross the flooded area.

Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro confirmed that a re­port was lodged regarding the incident and that there were no casualties.
