The head of the Mataqali Matarisiga, Vitogo and Ba Provincial Council chairman Ravusou Sauqaqa supports the equal lease distribution system because it stopped potential abuse of allocations.

“We prefer the current system of equal distribution,” he said.

“The only thing we want is for the chiefs, Turaga ni Yavusa and the Turaga ni Mataqali to be included in the deduction otherwise there would be a lot of corruption going on within the Tokatoka and Mataqali.

“The share is too much for the chief to have five per cent and 10 per cent for the Turaga ni Yavusa, 15 per cent for the Turaga ni Mataqali. He said the district of Vitogo had around six or seven villages and six Mataqali.

“Each Mataqali will have five percent deducted, what we don’t like is the abuse of that money,” he said.

He said Mataqali Matarisiga received $30,000 every fortnight which was distributed evenly.

“Just imagine all the Mataqali for the Vanua O Vitogo, so two percent would make that $600 and that among the six Mataqali makes that $3600 for Vitogo alone, that’s not counting Naviyago and Vakabuli,” he said.
