The ice plant at the Ministry of Fisheries Station in Savusavu, Vanua Levu, is now fully operational after a brief period of maintenance and repair works.

Minister for Fisheries Alitia Bainivalu confirmed the station has resumed its regular production schedule to support fishing communities, surrounding areas and commercial partners.

“This is an important support system for our fishermen, fish vendors and families who depend on the fishing industry every day,” Ms Bainivalu said.

“A reliable ice supply helps keep fish fresh, protect incomes and support business activities. Government remains committed to improving services that directly help ordinary Fijians and strengthen our local economy.”

She thanked fishing communities for their patience during the temporary closure.

“We understand the critical role that a consistent ice supply plays in maintaining the quality of your catch and supporting the local economy,” she said.

“We sincerely thank you for your patience during the recent downtime.”

The ministry says it remains committed to providing reliable services to the Northern Division.
