Six-year-old friends, Elenoa Gukiwasa and Ana Seasea, who were involved in last week’s tragic bus accident, are struggling to erase the terrifying memories they experienced.
Living as neighbours in Namoli Village, the two Year One students were among the 74 students of Delana Primary School in Lautoka on board the bus when it toppled over and landed on its side at Banaras.
They were seated together on the front seat.

Elenoa, who lost her arm in the accident, vividly described the chaotic aftermath, saying, after the bus had overturned, other students were on top of her.
“We were all crying. I tried to free my hand after it got stuck. A lady helped me out, but unfortunately, my left arm fell off. I lifted part of my dress below to cover my arm because there was a lot of blood.”
“I thank God that I am alive today. I love to read, but now I will only use one hand to hold a book.” Elenoa’s father, Epi Batirerega, unemployed, is appealing for assistance.
“Two of my children who are older than Elenoa suffered minor head injuries. I am requesting some assistance for my children’s medical check-up.”
