The biggest bus company in the North is calling for an increase in bus fares for school children claiming the current Government school bus fare scheme is “not viable.”

Dalip Chand and Son Pte Limited managing director Rohinil Chand, revealed this while making a submission during the Fiscal Review Committee public consultation in Labasa on Thursday.

His company has a fleet of 93 buses.

He claimed most of his buses frequently needed mechanical repairs because of the poor conditions of the roads they service.

“We as operators struggle a lot and the business I operate requires a lot of persistence and effort financially to survive.”
