Nadi Primary School had a prefect induction ceremony with a difference last week.

It was different because the message to the 56 newly-inducted prefects was hard-hitting and rather special because it came from within the confines of the school.

The group of 56 included year group prefects, environment prefects, and the normal school prefects who when badged were reminded to learn life’s core values.

Headteacher Mala Singh said: “We all know that the students of today are very much tomorrow’s leaders. You will be learning the core values of responsibility, empathy, and respect.

“Students use these core values in order to one day shape their communities, towns, and cities.”

Mrs Singh said this day was a very important and valuable day in their term calendar.

“Teachers give a lot of importance to this function because of the need to become good leaders in their respective year groups as well as good prefects,’’ Mrs Singh said.

“Today is an important and memorable occasion for some of our students who will be rewarded for their hard work.

“We have chosen these prefects to become outstanding students in the school and be models for other students. We also want every child to learn from and obey these prefects.

Their theme for this year is: “‘Above and beyond, the leaders of tomorrow’’.

“I commend you all and your parents for your effort that you made to be in a knowledge-based school.”

Member of Parliament Prem Singh, who officiated at the event, challenged the prefects to carry out their work diligently.

The school has 500 students and a kindergarten. It was established in 1969.
