School Upgrades Ground With Sports Floodlights

The installation of sports floodlights at Bocalevu Muslim Primary School as an income generating project will finance the school’s capital projects.

Head Teacher Mohammed Gani said after the school management able to generate income from their sports ground the installation of floodlights added value to their asset.

“Whenever the ground condition of Subrail Park is unfavourable, Fiji Football Association and Labasa Football Association would use our playground for the football league,” Gani said.

“This is another development step forward for our school and the sports lovers in the North.”

Grant

The school management raised $30,000 to install 12 flood lights of 800 watts each around the 105 metre by 70-metre sports ground. BMS was built in 1994 with a student roll of 100 this year.

Labasa Chamber of Commerce and Industries president Vinesh Dayal was chief guest at the lighting of the floodlights last Saturday.

Dayal said income generated from this project in the future would be used for sporting facilities upgrade and capital projects of the school.

He thanked all the local and overseas donors for their support.

“This school is an example of effective use and management of Government grant to improve learning; this model should be followed by other schools,” Dayal said.

“We all must explore the many opportunities that Labasa can offer.”
