Seaqaqa Sugarcane Farmer Dies Along Highway

A normal delivery trip from Korolevu, Seaqaqa to Fiji Sugar Corporation Labasa Mill was the last for a 70-year-old sugarcane farmer on Tuesday night.

Mohammed Janif died following a motor vehicle accident along the Labasa Seaqaqa Highway.

His son, Jone Sokece, 46, said they never imagined that there would come a day when his father would fail to return home.

“My mother packed his dinner as usual as he prepared to deliver one full load of sugarcane to the mill,” Mr Sokece said.

“My father has been a sugarcane farmer, transporting his own produce since I was 12 years old.”
