Seinirosi Defies the Odds

Trying to get a decent form of education was impossible for Lewa Senirosi.

Then finally last year a turning point to reach her goal to work in tourism industry came true.

Taking one step at a time drew her closer to achieving her dreams.

The young Lau lady leaped with joy when she received her Certificate at the Pacific Polytech Nabua Campus graduation on Thursday.

Ms Senirosi said after she left high school, in 2017 at Rishikul Sanatan College she had to explore various options.

“Last year after six years I boldly stepped up to further my education and get this certificate,” Ms Senirosi said.

“It was not easy but I was determined.

“It was something I would never regret or back off from now. I will continue upgrading my knowledge and be a better version of myself.

“The past years I was doing house chores and things unemployed young women would be doing on a daily basis.

“During these times, I used to question my worth.”

Her family was her biggest cheerleader when she enrolled for the course last year.

“Walking to and from school was a daily routine, sometimes it was hard but I kept pushing myself,” she said.

“Giving up wasn’t an option but leaning forward to the little faith I had kept me going.”

Minister for Education Viliame Gavoka said gender equality and empowerment of women and girls in the education system should be a priority.

The Pacific Polytech graduation on Thursday consisted of 263 females and 148 males.

Mr Gavoka stressed that students must continue to promote education to in their families, communities and vanua so that they become independent and have a bright future ahead.

“Educating women is empowering our communities, as women in most communities spearhead development to improve livelihoods at grass root levels,” Mr Gavoka said.

The minister said graduates of PPI are equipped with not only the technical skills and knowledge needed to succeed but also the creativity, resilience, and passion to make a difference.

“Whether you choose to pursue further education, enter the workforce, or start your own ventures, remember that you have the power to shape the future and make your mark on the world,” he said.
