Semo temporary bypass works enter final stages

Works on the temporary bypass road at Semo Village along the Queens Highway are now in their final stages, with the route expected to open to the public soon.
The urgent construction was undertaken to ensure continued safety and accessibility along one of Fiji’s main transport corridors.

“Since day one, the FRA team has been availing themselves, working tirelessly to complete the bypass road,” Mr Lalai said.
He said the visible presence and hard work of FRA personnel on the ground had reassured villagers that their concerns were being taken seriously.
“Their timely response shows their commitment to ensuring our safety and restoring normalcy for the people of Semo and those travelling along the highway. We truly appreciate the effort and long hours the team has put in to make this possible,” he said.
Mr Lalai also acknowledged the collective effort of the community, noting that villagers have assisted members of the public at designated drop-off and pick-up areas during the construction period.
“The villagers of Semo are also here providing assistance to the public at the drop-off and pick-up area. It has been a united effort to make sure everyone is safe and traffic continues to move as smoothly as possible,” he said.
With construction nearing completion, authorities are urging motorists to continue exercising caution when travelling through the area and to adhere to all traffic advisories until the bypass is officially opened.
Government reiterated that public safety and wellbeing remain its highest priority, and that the immediate attention given by the FRA team reflects its commitment to responding proactively to infrastructure challenges.
