At just 20 years old, Isei Bari has returned home after six years overseas, where he represented the Australian Fijians Under-20 side.

His comeback is more than just a return to the field; it is a continuation of a proud family legacy.

Bari hails from Tavualevu in Tavua, with maternal links to Waivunia in Savusavu, Cakaudrove.

He is the son of Manasa Bari, a former Fiji national rugby 7s and 15s representative and a name well respected in Fijian rugby circles.

Growing up, Bari watched his father wear the white jersey with pride and now he dreams of following in those very footsteps.

“I just want to keep learning, gain more experience, and play more games with the boys. Every opportunity to step on the field is a chance to grow and improve,” he said.

For the Bari family, sport is more than competition it is heritage. It is identity. It runs in their bloodline.

Adding further to the legacy, his grandfather, Marika Tabutaci, also represented Fiji in rugby, while his aunt, Mere Rabuka was a former captain of the national netball team.

His older sister, Ilisapeci Bari, has also worn national colours, playing in the front row for the Fiji Bulikula.

His return home was marked by a proud and emotional traditional i-vakamamaca ceremony, as family members gathered to formally welcome him back after six years abroad.

It was a heartfelt moment a celebration not only of his return, but of the journey that lies ahead.

Drua Development beat Australian Fijian Under 20, 45 - 14 at the Churchill Park in Lautoka on Saturday.
