For the folks at the Golden Age Home in Samabula, it was time to Tai Chi yesterday afternoon.

World renowned Tai Chi master, Wu Dong, held a class for the elderly at the Home.

Tai chi, short for T’ai chi ch’üan or Tàijí quán, is an internal Chinese martial art practiced for both its defence training, its health benefits and meditation.

Mr Wu said in China, the elderly practiced it daily and this allowed many of them to stay fit.

“Tai Chi is an ancient form of Chinese martial art that integrates medicine and body movements to deliver mental harmony and physical healing,” he said.

Mr Wu’s magnetic personality was an instant hit with the residents as he got them doing little exercises and talking in Chinese.
