A senior police officer has apologised over allegations that some law enforcement officers are using police vehicles and government resources to transport and sell drugs, warning those involved could face imprisonment if found guilty.
Speaking during the establishment of the Lami Women’s Forum, Fiji Police Force senior officer Tevita Qounadovu said members of the public had reported police vehicles being used in drug-related activities.
“Reports came in that some police trucks were being driven by police officers while transporting drugs,” he said.

“Those reports are coming from you, and we need more reports because it is not only one police officer involved, there are others as well.”
Mr Qounadovu apologised on behalf of the Fiji Police Force, saying some officers were allegedly abusing government resources and engaging in the drug trade.
“Anyone found guilty will be punished according to the law and will change the colour of their uniform from blue to orange,” he said, referring to imprisonment.
He said involvement in drugs not only destroyed an officer’s career, but also affected families and communities.
Mr Qounadovu also raised concerns about violence against women, saying Police recorded 2467 cases between 2020 and 2025.
He said 2025 had recorded the highest number of murders involving women so far, with eight cases reported.
Mr Qounadovu highlighted two recent murder cases in Nadi linked to domestic violence and family disputes, saying the incidents showed the devastating impact of violence in homes.
He urged women attending the forum to continue reporting crimes and working closely with authorities to protect vulnerable women and children.
