Separate residential fires ruin Christmas

National Fire Authority chief executive officer Puamau Sowane confirmed the following regarding the fires:

Lautoka fire 

Call received:12.02am on December 24, 2022.

Response: National Fire Authority responded to the call immediately, with a truck and crew from Lautoka and an additional truck from Nadi.

NFA comment: 

“The home owner was at home when the fire started. He arrived back home at 9pm and cooked his dinner. He fell asleep soon after that unattended cooking is the suspected cause of the fire. There were no casualties.”

Estimated cost of damage: $11,000.

Ba fire

Call received: 2.54am on December 25, 2022.

NFA comment:

“The extent of fire damage was approximately 80 per cent. The home was vacant at that time. According to relatives, the home was occupied by two elderly ladies who visited relatives at the neighbouring Sasa Village when the incident happened.”
