Leader of Opposition Inia Seruiratu yesterday asked in Parliament why Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has opted not to attend COP28.
Mr Seruiratu, during his right of reply to Mr Rabuka’s ministerial statement, expressed his concern and called out Government on its decision.
On Tuesday, the Minister for Finance, Biman Prasad, said that President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere and Mr Seruiratu would lead the Fijian delegation.

Mr Rabuka turned down the invitation. Instead, he delegated Mr Seruiratu, whom he said was more “suitable”.
This move was credited as a bipartisanship move by top government ministers.
Mr Seruiratu argued that Mr Rabuka’s attendance was important for the Fijian delegation.
Mr Rabuka is the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Climate Change, a key ministerial portfolio in such an international meeting.
“I’m quite worried that the Prime Minister has decided not to go to COP28. This is a responsibility that he shouldn’t and could not delegate,” Mr Seruiratu said.
“He has to take it by the horn and lead from the front. Because this is the single existential threat that is going to be the biggest worry—not only for Pacific Islanders but for the world.”
Mr Seruiratu said it was important for Mr Rabuka to attend and urged him to reconsider his initial decision.
