Sexual reproductive health has in the past been a sensitive topic in communities, however, in this day and age youths must be empowered to face its related challenges.
Minister for Youth and Sports Parveen Bala stressed this at Matawalu Village in Lautoka yesterday while addressing youths as they collected their certificates for a three-day training based on sexual reproductive health and rights.
Fifty-seven youth participants from five youth clubs took part in the training.

“Through this training we also help to reduce misinformation and provide correct information, to clarify values and reinforce positive attitudes, and to strengthen decision-making and communication skills,” Mr Bala said.
The training was in line with the ministry’s Youth Capacity Building Programme aimed at empowering youths with skills and training for development.
He said the ministry had conducted 13 trainings in this financial year benefiting a total of 469 youths.
“The ministry, through our non-formal education programme has provided many youths with an opportunity to be employed and sustain their livelihoods over many years,” he said.
Matawalu Village headman Ananaiasa Pesa Natou said the training would benefit the vast majority of youths.
“The training included the youth groups from Nacilau, Duavata, Teidamu, Matawalu, Malua and from the Yavusa Bukuya,” he said.
“I believe this training will help the youths be more aware of sexual reproductive health, and also help their peers as well.”
