A Nausori resident is unhappy, claiming that sex workers are operating in front of his house causing a nuisance to his family.

Edmond Yee stays in Gulab Nabi Street in Nausori which is part of the main town.

According to Mr Yee, sex workers both female and transgender would stand in front of his house, drink alcohol and urinate into his yard.

“They come around 6pm and leave around a little after 10pm. We can clearly see what they are doing. A car will stop, one of them will get in and after some time, the car will drop them back,” he said.

“They also buy alcohol; it is mostly Joske’s from the liquor shop around the corner. They throw the cans in the drain and into our yards.”

He said at times when they approach the group to stop causing a nuisance, they would shout offensive words at them.

Mr Yee has lodged a complaint with the Nausori Police Station. He hoped that this would bring an end to this problem.

He claimed that it has been happening for the last six months.

Meanwhile, another Nausori resident and a businessman, Yasin Ali, said, earlier when the issue of drunkards was raised, Police patrol increased in town, but now he claimed that patrol has dropped and drunkards are back on the streets.

He said people are drinking in open public areas.

Nausori special administrator, Uma Kant Patel, said they have now installed nine CCTV cameras which would help police monitor these activities and curb crime.

Police chief of operations Assistant Commissioner of Police, Abdul Khan, had met with Nausori businesses and the Town Council and had assured them of Police presence to curb alcohol and drug use which were happening publicly in Nausori.
