Social Democratic Liberal Party (SODELPA) vice president George Shiu Raj says he will decide on his future in SODELPA after the management board meeting later this month.

Mr Shiu Raj made these comments after being queried on his participation in a public meeting with Sitivent Rabuka’s People’s Alliance Party in Rakiraki last Saturday.

He said if he had plans to join Mr Rabuka’s political party, he would first resign from SODELPA before moving forward.

“I will attend the meeting as the party vice-president and I will make a decision and after that decision, then I will come to the media and announce if I am moving or staying,” he said.

SODELPA general secretary Lenaitasi Duru said he was made aware of Mr Shiu Raj’s participation at the meeting, but he was still a member of SODELPA.

“I have been informed of that, but until he notifies us that he wants to join Mr Rabuka’s party, then we will know that he is leaving,” he said.

“For now he is still a member of SODELPA.

Rabuka visits SODELPA HQ

Mr Duru also cleared the air on Mr Rabuka’s visit to the SODELPA headquarters this week.

He said the visit was mainly to sit and socialise with no political intentions.

“We are still citizens of this nation; nobody is stopping anybody from drinking grog with anyone,” Mr Duru said.

“Politics aside, we sat together, talanoa with differences aside.

“We will be working together anyway if we are voted into Government or Opposition. We need to find a common ground.”

He said there were no talks yet with regards to working with Mr Rabuka leading up to the 2022 General Election, but that would be a matter of discussion with the management board.
