Leader of Opposition Inia Seruiratu says the biggest message the Fijian delegation was echoing at this year’s COP was that we were amongst the most vulnerable and that funding to adapt to the climate crisis needs to be simplified.

“The world needs to know that,” Mr Seruiratu said.

“While mitigation is good for us in the long term, adaptation is the means of survival. The issue of funding needs to be addressed as well,” he said.

“Funds are available, but its access to funding, it needs to be simplified so that we have access to it given our vulnerability.”

In showing a united front at COP28, Mr Seruiratu said the climate crisis was a matter of national interest and there was a need to provide the best environment for our people

“This is the biggest existential threat and we need to give it the highest priority.”
