Harry Suli Tuinisautu Matavesi, reaped the fruits of his labour after receiving the dux shield during the annual awards ceremony on Thursday.
The headboy of Ahmadiyya Muslim Primary School Lautoka said he was honoured and also shared the momentous occasion with his younger brother Usaia Jabez Matavesi who also topped his class.
“Yes I am happy, it was a very proud moment, I want to thank all the people that have been helping and supporting me for this whole year especially my friends and family so yes it’s been a great year,” he said.

He said his teachers and his mother played a pivotal role in guiding him towards his academic achievement.
“It was my teacher; he always told me that whoever scores the highest marks will get the dux award so I’ve been working hard to achieve that goal,” he said.
He is still contemplating whether to attend Queen Victoria School or Natabua High School next year however, he shared key factors that molded his character.
“Always work hard, if you work hard you will achieve what you want in life. Respect your elders and be obedient,” he said.
Proud mother, Lusiana Cokanasiga Matavesi, said excelling academically was not unusual.
“I was always proud of him since class one because he was the class captain from class one to six, Deputy head boy in class seven and headboy this year,” she said
“Throughout class one to eight, he scooped first prize in mid-year and annual exams. Despite the challenges of living with only me (mother), Suli became the leader of his school and worked hard from day one to become the dux.”
Meanwhile more than 140 students graduated and received awards as well.
