Single Mother's Words Inspire Son to Earn Degree
His biggest daily battle was traveling from his village outside Nausori Town to school.

For Etonia Tagicaki, Wednesday was more than just a graduation celebration, it was a dream come true.
The young man, who hails and has maternal links to Raralevu Village in Tailevu, earned his Bachelor of Science in Agriculture degree during the Fiji National University graduation at the Vodafone Arena.
Mr Tagicaki’s journey wasn’t smooth sailing.

Sometimes, the long trips made him want to give up, but every time he felt like quitting, he remembered the words of his caring mother.
She always reminded him that “education is the key to a better future”.
With eyes filled with tears, Mr Tagicaki said her sacrifices and advice kept him going.
Many days when there wasn’t enough money for transport or lunch, his mother never stopped encouraging him.
She believed in him even when he doubted himself, so her words became his strength,
Mr Tagicaki now hopes to use his degree to help rural communities develop better farming practices.
He wants to give back to rural villages like Raralevu, where many youths struggle just like he did.
“Graduating is not just my achievement,” he said.
“It’s for my mother, my village, and everyone who never gave up on me.”
