Single mother, Lina Toga is hoping to establish a cake and pastries shop with her Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) concessional loan.
Ms Toga is a pastry chef at Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort and operates her small business from home to support her family.
During this pandemic, the 38-year-old only worked for two or three day in a week.

She said with the loan that was offered by the Government she planned to buy better equipment for her business and also look for a place to establish a pastry shop at Kulukulu in Sigatoka. She received the loan last month.
“When I heard of this loan, I decided to apply and I am thankful for the Government for helping us start small businesses. Since I shifted to Sigatoka six years ago, I am just doing this business little by little,” she said.
“Here in Kulukulu there is no bread shop so I decided to start my cake and pastries business. I used to take orders from my customers like once or twice in a week. I get to bake a cake with the price of $45.
“With the loan, I started to look for some better equipment and also look for a space to start a cake shop.”
Furthermore Ms Toga said with the income she receives she was able to support her only son who is a Year 7 student.
