Two sisters, Adi Nunia Talatoka and Makelesi Tikomainavualiku Kautoga, celebrated a remarkable achievement on Wednesday, receiving their Postgraduate Diploma in Emergency Medicine from the Fiji National University.

The graduation, held at the Fiji Vodafone Arena, marked a significant milestone for their family.

The duo credited their success to their parents' sacrifices and God's guidance.

Adi Nunia, the eldest, pursued her Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBBS) in China, while Makelesi completed her MBBS studies at FNU in 2015.

Reflecting on their journey, Makeesi shared: "It hasn't been easy juggling work and studies, but we're thankful to God for being the source of wisdom and knowledge throughout this journey."

The sisters are the first in their extended family to achieve such qualifications.

"Hopefully, others follow, maybe in other new fields," Makelesi added.

Both sisters are now practising at Aspen Medical in Lautoka, driven by their commitment to patient care.

"You have to be knowledgeable and compassionate to provide quality care daily," she said.

For Adi Nunia, her son is her greatest inspiration.

"I've seen the struggles my parents endured for me and my four siblings. I want to be a similar inspiration to others, especially my son," she said.

"He's my reason to push myself to the next level and set a benchmark for him to strive ahead."

The sisters acknowledged the guidance of senior healthcare professionals and emphasised the importance of perseverance.

"While the course was challenging and time-consuming, anything is possible if you put your mind to itespecially when God is at the centre of it all," they affirmed.
