SODELPA’s attempt to strike out a motion challenging the appointment of Ratu Epenisa Cakobau as party president was declined by the High Court in Lautoka yesterday.

High court judge Justice Anare Tuilevuka had ordered that the Registrar of Political Parties be made a party in the case.

The case was filed by Taitusi Kata who identifies himself as the president of SODELPA’s urban constituency for Ba, Tavua and Vatukoula.

Mr Kata had filed the case in court after Ratu Epenisa was appointed president of the party and Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu was ousted.

Mr Kata claimed that Ratu Epenisa was a fraudulent president and the then general secretary Emele Duituturaga did not have the powers to appoint him.

SODELPA has also been ordered to pay $1800 in court costs.
