The working committee of the Social Democratic Liberal Party (SODELPA) has raised a number of concerns with Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka regarding recent developments within the Coalition government, urging candid discussions to preserve trust and unity.

In a correspondence with Mr Rabuka the committee raised their concerns about his recent actions that seemed to contravene the Coalition Agreement, particularly regarding ministerial positions and transparency.

Concerns raised include the breaching of Section 4 of the coalition agreement which stipulates that the Coalition government shall not exceed 20 ministers, ensuring efficiency and cost-effectiveness in governance while maintaining equitable representation among coalition partners.

SODELPA expressed concern over the recent increase in the number of ministers beyond the agreed limit of 20, which they believe goes against the principles of efficiency and proportional representation.

The party has also highlighted that this increase was placing unnecessary strain on Government resources and undermines the intent of streamlined governance.

The committee also raised concerns of the transparency and consultation within the coalition.

The Coalition Agreement further states that all major decisions, including appointments to senior government positions, must be made in consultation with all Coalition partners to ensure transparency and maintain trust within the Coalition.

The committee also mentioned to the Prime Minister about the lack of consultation regarding the inclusion of G9 members in ministerial positions.

The party emphasised that this failure to consult breaches the principles of transparency and trust, which are essential to maintaining coalition unity.

Prime Minister Rabuka has not responded to the committee’s concern.
