Social Democratic Liberal Party (SODELPA) president Ratu Epenisa Cakobau is believed to have tendered his resignation as party president.

This is considering recent court case where SODELPA leader Viliame Gavoka lost in his bid to oust Member of Parliament Mosese Bulitavu from the party.

There are two factions inside SODELPA. One faction has told the Fiji Sun that the Management Board has refused to accept Ratu Epenisa’s resignation and that this was an internal SODELPA matter.

The other group, however, has fired back saying that the Management Board could not have refused to accept the resignation letter because the board had not met.

A few Management Board members have confirmed to the Fiji Sun that the process of such a resignation would be for SODELPA general secretary, in this case Lenitasi Duru, to present the resignation letter at a Management Board meeting.

The faction, which is not happy with the manner in which MP Bulitavu was treated by the party, confirmed that the only communication from Mr Duru was an email informing them that the Management Board meeting, which was scheduled for this month, had been deferred.

Neither Ratu Epenisa nor SODELPA officials could be reached for comments when this edition went to press last night.
