Luke Navuda, 70, died in an accident a few metres away from his home at Nagado Village in Sabeto, Nadi On Saturday morning.

Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said the victim was driving along Nagado Hill when he lost control of his vehicle causing it to veer off the road, resulting in the unfortunate accident.

“As a result the victim died at the scene,” she said.

“The victim’s two grandsons sustained injuries and are admitted at the Nadi Hospital in critical condition.”

The victim’s only son and namesake Luke Navuda Junior said his father was transporting his grandsons to a sporting event.

A few minutes away from their home, his father had to roll start the van downhill.

“From where I stood I heard the engine started and seconds later I heard a loud crash,” Navuda Jnr said,

“I didn’t know what really happened and even the children didn’t know because it was still dark.”

Navuda Jnr, 34, said he had to first carry the two children to safety.

A Lion One vehicle, on its way to the village to drop a staff, took the children home while he went to look for his father.
