St Giles Hospital To Get A Facelift

St Giles Psychiatric Hospital will undergo a facelift and upgraded to be the regional mental institution for the South Pacific.
Senior Medical Superintendent Balram Pandit made the revelation in Suva yesterday.
Dr Pandit said plans were underway to change the surroundings and upgrade the facility to provide adequate services and meet the demand.

“There are multiple things that are in place,” Dr Pandit said.
“We will have better rehabilitation services with patients with substances abuse issues.”
Dr Pandit said the rehabilitation centre would be designed to also cater for those who needed counselling and those who need support after relapse and chronic mental illness.

“We also have a centre called worried “well”; this is for patients who come in with mental stress. The centre will be a go to zone for them.
“We are trying to expand the facility to raise the standard of services,” he said.
He said while the present facility did not cater for children, the project plan had taken into consideration that the children’s ward was under the same roof.
“Our young patients are currently admitted at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital, this is really exhausting our health professionals.
“We are trying to improve the infrastructure to bring all services under one roof.”
