‘Stand By Your Loved Ones Battling Cancer’

The University of Fiji fourth year medical student, Osama Bin Khalid, is urging all Fijians to stand by their loved ones who are battling cancer.

Mr Khalid highlighted this while speaking at the Pinktober Breast Cancer Awareness month celebration at the Smugglers Cove Resort at Wailoaloa, Nadi on Sunday.

The awareness fundraiser was organised by Non-Government Organisation (NGO) group, Gates of Charity.

“We stand in support for those all around the world fighting breast cancer and at the same time, raise awareness of this disease,” Mr Khalid said.

“It can happen to anyone, male or female so let’s be proactive and get checked. An early diagnosis results in a better chance of survival.”

He said being a medical student, the best advice he could provide for women was to get screened if they experienced any symptoms relating to breast cancer.

“Let’s take care of ourselves so that we can take care of our loved ones,” he added.

Gates of Charity club president and founder, Shainaz Ali, said the club which was formed in 2019, took on the initiative to support Pinktober as majority of club members were women.
