After Govindamma Prasad’s husband Ramesh Prasad was diagnosed with a heart disease a few years ago, she had to step in as the family’s sole breadwinner.
The 57-year-old, the mother of three, is the owner of the Moon’s Real Taste & Takeaways at Namaka in Nadi.
In 2015, she was one of the successful recipients of the Small and Micro Business grant of $1000.

“I have been running this business since 2008 and I started with little furniture but with the $1000 grant, I was able to buy more tables, electric appliances and an urn.
“My husband was diagnosed with a heart disease and went to India for a medical treatment so I had to step in and find a way to provide for my family,” she added.
Ms Prasad thanked the Government for their assistance which enabled her to extend her restaurant.
“I would earn around $350 in a week and $120 would go into my husband’s medical expenses, it is enough for our daily expenses,” she said.
Currently, Ms Prasad said the restaurant was managed by one staff and her.
“I am planning to recruit more staff and I love this location because it’s an industrial area, it’s a good place to do business,” she added.
Ms Prasad advised women to take advantage of the Government’s assistance in building their lives and businesses.
“This is the first time for me to receive the grant since I started my business,” she added.
