Minister for Agriculture and Waterways Vatimi Rayalu has issued a clear directive to public servants under his leadership: “Stop lying to the people”.

“I remind every government official who works with me, our people deserve the truth,” Mr Rayalu said.

“The first thing I tell them is this stop the lies.”

The minister’s remarks mark a striking departure from the often-cautious language of government communications.

Declaring that honesty must take precedence over convenience, Mr Rayalu emphasised that sugarcoating reality only bred mistrust.

“I don’t sugarcoat anything. If we are truly here to serve the people, then honesty must come first, even when the truth is difficult,” he said.

Mr Rayalu urged officials engaging with communities to be upfront, especially when they don’t have immediate solutions.

“When you go out to meet the people, don’t lie to them. If you can’t fix something or don’t have the answer, say so, and promise to take it up with those who can.”

He acknowledged a history of broken promises and misinformation that had eroded public confidence in government.

“Too many times, our people have been misled. That must stop. We owe you the truth. You deserve respect. And you have every right to hold us, your leaders, accountable.”

Mr Rayalu said rebuilding public trust required more than policy, it demanded character.

“This is how we rebuild trust. This is how we serve with integrity,” Mr Rayalu concluded.

His call for truth and transparency has struck a chord with many, setting a strong tone for a leadership style built on honesty, accountability, and direct engagement with the people.
