“This morning (yesterday), 45 street dwellers began a new chapter in their lives at the Fiji National University (FNU) Namaka Campus,” said Minister for Youth and Sports Jese Saukuru.
“They are part of the Ministry of Youth and Sports’ Easter on the Park programme, designed to give them the skills they need to find jobs and build better lives.”
Mr Saukuru revealed plans for longer-term support.
“This is just the beginning. We are working through the Ministry of Rural and Maritime Development to build a safe house. This will help these individuals have a safe place to stay while they prepare for work and a better life.”
He said the initiative reflected the broader mission of the Coalition Government.
“For too long, people like them were ignored, but your Coalition Government is changing that. We are here to support, empower, and uplift everyone no matter where they come from.
“We believe in second chances. We believe in action, not excuses. We believe that everyone deserves hope and opportunity. Let’s move forward together,” he said.
