A women’s organisation, which had been in operation for more than 80 years, has closed, and the money they had, was donated to the Sai Sanjeevani Children’s Heart Hospital in Suva.

The members of Stri Sewa Sabha donated $37,277.40 for surgical equipment for the soon-to-be-opened hospital.

The Stri Sewa Sabha was formed in 1934 by a group of women in Suva to improve the lives of women and girls, to educate and empower them and address social issues.

The executive members of the Sabha, Rajpati Kewal, Chandan Gokal, Lalita Sharma and Sabita Gandhi were happy to support the Sanjeevani Children’s Heart Hospital.

“When we got to know about the upcoming children’s heart hospital, naturally, being women and mothers, our hearts melted and we felt the need to be a part of this monumental project,” said Mrs Sharma.

Director of Sai Sanjeevani Children’s Heart Hospital, Dr Krupali Tappoo, said that the members of Sai Prema Foundation were delighted to receive the support.

“We are so very grateful to Stri Sewa Sabha for supporting the Children’s Heart Hospital. This monumental project is going to be the beacon of hope for thousands of children in Fiji and the South Pacific who suffer from congenital heart disease,” said Dr Tappoo.

The Children’s Heart Hospital will be inaugurated in the coming months and is the largest project undertaken by an NGO in Fiji.
